Projects are chosen from priorities that come out of the long- range planning process. They can vary in form from building sidewalks to creating a website for our organization.
Road and intersection improvement projects are our biggest projects, and they usually take the most amount of time to complete. Projects come from the Long Range Transportation Plan and then are approved by the Policy Committee to be put into the Transportation Improvement Program where they are designated funding.
Applications for Enhancement Projects are made on an annual basis and submitted to SPATS. While criteria for projects have changed over the years, the main categories have been beautification, trails, sidewalks, and historic preservation. Currently the Enhancement Program is a source of funding for alternate mobility and beautification projects.
SPATS coordinates with several organizations to complete projects identified in our Spartanburg Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, 2009.
